This is why it’s as important to read reviews written by women and people of colour, rather than just those published in the mainstream media. I find social media to be a good barometer, especially with campaigns for own voices reviews growing in popularity (there’s a great hashtag on Instagram for book recommendations #ownvoicesreviews).
