That’s another question, not really related to this article, which deals with two capitalist democracies. Though I would cautiously argue that socialist democracies are much further away from death than their more capitalist brethren. Germany, for example, has a far more closely controlled market and has been able to respond better to the covid crisis. Scandinavian socialist democracies, though they have far less people to please, seem to be doing a far better job at pleasing them.

From the tone of your response, however, I get the feeling that you mistakenly see “socialism” as the opposite of “democracy”.
