Judging by the personal responses and direct messages I received after publishing this, you’re not alone. Many women that I’ve spoken to found that the environmental element cemented their decision not to have children, rather than inspired it. Though our current welfare systems in Europe will struggle with any further drop in fertility, I hope that our next generation of leaders will be socially aware enough to compensate for a drop in population-based income tax by dialling back the capitalist priorities that currently dominate. It’s not necessary for every household to have children, and it never should have been.
