I was trying to explain reparations to my dad this morning, and it always seems to come back to the “my family didn’t own slaves” argument. I tried to explain in it the context of, in 1500, China was easily the most advanced nation in the world and entirely self sufficient. What changed between 1500 and now for the Europeans? Colonialism and slavery. It didn’t stick. Next time, I’ll try some of the arguments you’ve put forward here. Thank you so much for providing them.
