I was surprised to read about how a lot of Soviet innovation was also driven by women. There's a great book called "Why Women Have Better Sex Under Socialism" (which I reviewed here: https://link.medium.com/8Lz6zOpRpmb and the intro is free to read via Google books) that goes into detail on how the Soviets got a head start on the US in some tech industries simply because they had women in the workforce very early on.
