We have a similar situation in the UK right now. But because the media so often tends to focus on America’s race issues rather than our own, few are writing about it. Afua Hirsch is a rare exception:

I’m not sure if the prison situation for you has gone as far as ours, but those dying (not just infected) from coronavirus in prison, regardless of their crime, are no longer allowed to be transferred to hospital. Health workers, like my mum, are being forced to set up emergency “wards” wherever they can find space within the prison. They have no ventilators, only oxygen canisters, which don’t last long enough to provide proper treatment. Needless to say, we have similar structural issues within our justice system that disproportionately results in black bodies ending up behind bars.
